There were 5,897 housing units at an average density of 1,021.0/km (2,645.0/mi). The racial makeup of the village was 89.13% White, 2.44% African American, 0.23% Native American, 1.47% Asian, 1.96% from other races, and 4.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.25% of the population.

There were 5,739 households out of which 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.5% were married couples living together, 12.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% were non-families. 31.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
